In a further development to the Petcoke ban, the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climatic Change (MoEF&CC) of the Government of India has taken a tighter stance in respect to the ban.
According to the information received, the Ministry is learnt to have directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to issue order, under the provisions of the Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act 1986, to the states of Haryana, Rajasthan and UP for prohibiting any use of Petcoke(and Furnace Oil) by any industry or process with immediate effect until further orders.
Earlier, usage of the fuels was banned by the Supreme Court in the Delhi/NCR with effect from 1 Nov’17.
Apparently, Petcoke users in the states will have to switch over to the usage of USA coal, which has a calorific value of around 7,200 GAR, comparable with that for Petcoke, at around 7,600 GAR.
In this context, CoalMint will closely monitor the subsequent market developments and will apprise the readers of the change in the market dynamics and policies.
