Brazil Pig Iron Exports Drift Up 9% in October 2017

Brazil, the world’s second-largest Pig iron exporter, has exported about 0.25 MnT Pig iron in October 2017, according to trade statistics released by Brazilian customs.

The exports of Pig iron from the nation have registered a gain of 8.69% M-o-M & 150% Y-o-Y in Oct’17 against 0.23 MnT in Sep’17 & 0.10 MnT in Oct’16.

Further, in the first 10 months of CY17 (Jan-Oct’17), Pig iron exports, surged by 6.14% to 1.90 MnT against 1.79 MnT in same preceding CY16.

Prior to this, on yearly calculation in CY 2016 (Jan-Dec) the pig iron export was around 2.18 MnT & in CY 2015 at 2.75 MnT.

Country wise exports:

The largest importer of Brazilian Pig iron during Oct’17 was United States (0.05 MnT), followed by Netherlands (0.05 MnT), Thailand (0.04 MnT) & Peru (0.03 MnT).

In the month, the major export were from the ports of Vitoria (0.11 MnT), Rio De Janeiro (0.08 MnT) & Sao Luis (0.05 MnT). While approximately 70% of exports were done from the port of Vitoria & Rio De Janeiro till October 2017.

In the total pig iron exports during CY 2017 (Jan-Oct), the favorable export destination of Brazilian pig iron was – United States 0.77 MnT (40.80%), Netherlands 0.32 MnT (16.70%), Italy 0.25 MnT (13.06%) & Taiwan 0.15 MnT (7.94%).

In context to export prices, global offers for steel grade pig Iron is assessed at USD 350-360/MT FoB Brazil & USD 325-345/MT FoB India.
